Somebody asked a Sufi:
- Teach me how to pray.
- Useless, answered him the Master. You are already only one prayer.
- I do not understand! Since months I try to pray to God and I cannot do it!- You asked me to teach you how to pray. You did not speak to me about God. The permanent prayer in which you take pleasure is directed towards your neighbors whose opinion on you does not cease worrying you. You pray without stopping to a money idol, because it is what you really want. And another security idol, and still others... If you pray to as many gods, do not be surprised if there is no place in you for another prayer.

Abdurahman Jâmî
A man who sells miracles in order to be idolized is only a charlatan. The one who buys it from him, even if it does not bark, is only a dog. A Sufi does not need to temper with the supernatural.

Djalâl-ud-Dîn-Rûmî
The night comes, everyone sleeps
Like fish, they all go to the water
When the day rises, some go towards the means
The others go towards the One who gives

Shibli
Shibli says one day to the one of his disciples:
- Do you know what is wrong in your effort to unit with God?- No, Master!
- You take only care to call Him to you.

Sidi Hajj Abbas
Life is a succession of signs. God only seeks to bring us closer to Him in His mercy. It is us who do not know to read His signs. The tests that we go through, as well as the benefits that we receive, are His signs and we must try to see God in them.

'Alî Ben ' Abd-Allah Al-' Imrani Al-Hassani (known as Al-Jamal)
Whereas others are concerned with the worship, be concerned with the Worshiped; if they occupy themselves with love, occupy yourself with the Loved one; whereas they aspire to make miracles, aspire to the pleasure of the prayer; while they multiply their devotions, dedicate yourself to your very generous Lord.

Take God as a friend. It is reassuring for a stranger to find an accomplice in an unknown country.

Hadith (Muslim)
A'isha brings these remarks from the Prophet(pbuh): God is lenient and He likes leniency. He grants in return for leniency what He does not grant in return for rigor nor for any other quality.
